You will be met at your Hotel by your English speaking driver and depart Fes for Merzouga.
Experience spectacular views of cedar forests, visit the Barbary Apes at Ifrane and tour through the beautiful and scenic Midelt on route to the Sahara.
Travel through the Ziz valley and view the Efous oasis which offers amazing photographic opportunities.
Arrive late in the afternoon for your night in Merzouga, the threshold of the Sahara.
For lunch we recommend stopping for a Moroccan BBQ at Zaida, close to Midelt –you can take the lead from your driver.
Erg Chebbi is the large sand-sea which effectively marks the start of the real Sahara and some of the dunes in this area rise to over 245 metres.
The colors of the rising and setting sun over these dunes make for a truly magical experience.
Enjoy a leisurely morning.
Your driver is available for you all day which gives you the opportunity to explore the surrounding desert areas.
Some thoughts might be the Rissani Kasbah Abdelhali and local souks (if it’s market day), local fossil digs, flamingo lakes or an exhibition of gnoua music at Khamila.
In the afternoon your driver will introduce you to your nomad guide for your overnight camel excursion.
Your guide will take you into the desert, around a 1½ – 2 hour ride by camel.
When you reach your bivouac you can relax, climb the dunes or just star gaze while your guide prepares your evening meal and sets up your campfire for you.
For lunch we suggest trying madfouna, a local berber style pizza – a specialty from the region – you can find at local bakeries in the area – again take the lead from your driver at to the best spot to find them!
NOTE: You’ll only need essentials in the desert so best to take a small backpack with all you need and you can leave your luggage with your personal driver if you prefer
Duration of travel: 1.5 hours by camel
Rise early in the morning to see the amazing sunrise over the dunes then head back to your hotel in Merzouga to re-fresh and take breakfast before departing for Tinehir and Todra Gorge.
In Tinehir we organize a short guide tour for you for an hour or so to give you an overview of the ancient berber culture and heritage that exist in the region.
One of the highlights of the South is the massive fault in the plateau that divides the High Atlas from the Jebel Sarhro, called the Todra Gorges.
The crystal clear river emerging from the deep ochre and pink rock formations offer a dramatic landscape and great photographic opportunities.
A lovely place to relax, enjoy and reflect on the surrounding beauty.
Travel through the beautiful Valley of the Roses before reaching La Palmerie Skoura, your destination for the night.
For lunch try local Moroccan at any of the cafes in Tinehir.
If you’re lucky enough to pass a local souk on the way to Todra Gorge why put together a picnic so that you can lunch by the river, Moroccan style as per the locals!
Home of Morocco’s ’Hollywood’ movie Industry you can choose to stop off at the movie studios and see where films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and Babel were filmed.
Explore the city and make a visit to Kasbah Taourirt, once one of the largest Kasbahs of the area, and once home to members of the Glaoui Dynasty, who ruled the vicinity.
Parts of this Kasbah have been carefully restored by UNESCO and it is probably the main sightseeing venue of Ouarzazate.
On route to Marrakech is Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most exotic and best preserved Kasbahs in the entire Atlas Region.
The Kasbah is now under UNESCO protection and has magnificent views of the surrounding palmeraie and beyond.
From Ait Benhaddou journey through the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi–n-Tichka pass and experience some of the most amazing mountain views of Morocco before arriving at your final destination of Marrakech where your driver will escort you to your Hotel before bidding farewell.
